How to download a private Facebook video
Easiest on a computer. On Android use Chrome; on iPhone this method is not available in Safari.
Open the video
Log in to Facebook in your browser and open the private video so it plays on its own page.
View the page source
Press Ctrl+U (Windows) or ⌥⌘U (Mac). On Android Chrome, add view-source: before the address.
Copy and paste
Select everything (Ctrl+A), copy (Ctrl+C), paste it in the box above and tap Download.
Why this method is safe
Private videos can only be seen by people who are logged in and allowed to watch them. Many sites ask for your Facebook email and password to "unlock" them, which is dangerous. We do the opposite: you open the video in your own browser, copy the page source, and our tool only reads the video addresses from that text. We never see your password, and the pasted text is processed in memory and discarded.
Detailed steps (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Open the private video in Chrome, Edge or Firefox while logged in.
- Press Ctrl+U (Windows/Linux) or Option+Command+U (Mac) to open the page source in a new tab.
- Press Ctrl+A / Command+A to select everything and copy it.
- Paste into the box above and tap Download, then choose HD or SD.
Android
In Chrome, tap the address bar, move to the very beginning and type view-source: in front of the Facebook link, then press Enter. Long-press the text, choose Select all, copy, and paste it here.
If it does not work
- Make sure the video actually plays on the page you copied.
- Copy the whole source, not just part of it.
- Facebook changes its code often; if the links cannot be found, try the mobile site (m.facebook.com) version of the video.
Respect privacy
A private video was shared with a limited audience for a reason. Download only your own videos, or videos you have the uploader's permission to keep.

Do I need to give you my Facebook password?
Never. You copy the page source in your own browser. Any site that asks for your password to download a video should be avoided.
Is the page source stored?
No. It is processed in memory to find the video links and discarded immediately.
Can I do this on iPhone?
Safari on iPhone does not show page source, so please use a computer or Chrome on Android.
Why does it say no video was found?
Make sure the video plays on the page you copied and that you copied the complete source. Try the video's own page rather than your news feed.
